The Long Beach Hate Crime Trial

This past Halloween, 3 white girls were beaten by a mob of 40 black minors who yelled "We hate whites!" amongst other things and proceeded to beat two of the girls to a pulp.  One of the girl's faces was fractured in 13 places.  She underwent 7 hours of surgery today to repair her face and hopefully restore her vision.  The full story is quite involved. 9 of the perps were caught and charged with a hate crime and assault with great bodily injury.  Today, they were convicted.  All received wrist slaps. Representatives of the black youth today basically mocked the victims and praised God for seeing them through the ordeal, and affirmed their innocence.  I heard the deputy DA on the Larry Elder show today basically call the judge's sentences a miscarriage of justice.  The deputy DA, Brian Shern, repeated over and over again that the judge stated that he gave the lightest sentences possible.  All were convicted of a hate crime, which is supposed to make the sentence harsher, but this was basically ignored by the judge.

There are several things to note here.  First, the media was loathe to cover this incident.  It was given little more than a footnote of coverage by the LA Times and the local television news.  If this had been 40 white youths beating 3 black girls, rest assured, the media would be all over the story the same way they covered the Duke lacrosse players' story.  Black "leaders" would have flown in from all over the country demanding justice.  If I didn't listen to talk radio, I never would have even heard this story.  Second, much of the black community of Long Beach rallied around the assailants.  One black "leader" stated that there must have been some "provocation" to incite these hyenas to beat three girls to within an inch of their lives.  One of the witnesses, an young black girl who helped the victims on the scene, was threatened and had her car destroyed.  Another witness and good samaritan, who tried to shield one of the unconscious victims, was threatened and had to move.
The mother of one of the victims at a press conference told the people of Long Beach to "lock their doors" because Long Beach is not safe anymore.  Was it ever?  What does it take to become a pariah in the black community?  Does the black community automatically just side with their race in all instances?
Pray for the victims.  Pray that the attackers find Christ before justice finds them, as hard as that will be to do.

Where are the feminists in defense of these young women?

You'd think once the judiciary and media abandoned them, the feminists of all people would stick up for them.

Oh, right. These young women are white.

This really is such a tragedy, on so many levels.

All I can do is join you in Prayer.

Amen. We'll be joining the recall effort.

Victimhood 101 right there...

Great example of the perps using the race/victimhood card combo to get away with whatever they please.

As a born-and-bred resident of Simi Valley, Lower Left Coast, the "judge's" and media's cowardly pandering was no surprise to me at all. Just how far is this so-called leveling-the-playing-field going to go? I'm still waiting for the day when weak-kneed white Liberals agree with black racist "civil leaders" to institute official "Days of Outrage" (remember Al Sharpton's street party in N.Y.C.?) in which members of groups under P.C. protection are to go forth and do/take anything they desire from "suspected racists" (meaning all whites).

Sound like a blithering rant from a neo-Nazi? Couldn't happen here? Consider Hitler's Sturmabtelung and S.S., or Mao Tse-tung's Red Guards. Both of these movements took place in civilized counries, with the O.K. stamp of their governments. And those are just 2 examples. Witnessing the fearful bowing and scraping of university faculty, city/state/federal officials and even many law enforcement agencies at the feet of the thugs among us, and their refusal to protect the honest citizen, shows that the pieces are well in place. Modern Liberalism isn't "nice" or "tolerant"- it is dangerous.

I TIM. 2:1-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother,

Of course you don't sound like a Nazi. Nazism was a left-wing movement, anyway. I wouldn't even mind if we were left to our own devices to protect ourselves. The problem is, you can't get a concealed weapons permit anywhere in Los Angeles county and if you do protect yourself, you can expect a civil suit even if you're acquitted of criminal charges.

Our government has ceased to be a terror to those who do wrong. From God's perspective, this is the only thing that makes it a legitimate one.

CORRUPT LEADERS: You won't be safe either if you don't start enforcing laws!

Good point PRCalDude, there is no respect (or fear) for authority anymore.

(sob)...Every time the subject of firearms comes up, I still mourn the loss of the wonderful Great Western Show in Pomona, thanks to the brilliant City Council. Giving them and all other gun shows the boot sure did chop crime into small pieces, didn't it?!?!?

Toa,

That's still an open sore for me too.

We recently got a concealed carry law passed, after the governor vetoed it 2 times, the third time the legislature finally excercise override their powers and passed the law.

The single biggest argument for not passing the law was that it would increase gun sales in the community and increase the risk of gun related injuries.

After a year now, not one gun crime or accident has been associated with concealed carry... except for the guy who broke up a robbery. And the guy got yelled at by the police for placing himself at risk. No community acknowledgement for this guy's efforts to fight crime.

Who are the enemy again? The criminals or the police?

Another guy I know stumbled upon and was following someone who stole his wife's car. He called the police, and the police told him to quit following. He asked if they would find the car if he lost track of it. They just told him the car wasn't worth the trouble or the risk. That just made him more determined to follow.

So the dispatcher told him that the perps might have a gun and he could risk getting shot. He responded that he had a concealed carry permit and if the perps want to the shoot at him, he would just shoot them back.

That's when the dispatcher finally sent a patrol car.

Larry,

I agree, it's becoming increasingly unclear, especially here in Los Angeles. Most cops themselves aren't qualified to use a gun, and can't hit the broadside of a barn at 5 yards. Also, they're famous for flock shooting - when one cop shoots, they all do whether it's the right or wrong thing to do. The cops here don't respect gun owners, but often they don't show up until the crime was long over.

I'll never forget being the victim of a drive by while sitting in my friend's room in his fraternity house. Fortunately, the perps only used bird shot - it didn't penetrate the double paned window. The cops showed up chuckling about 20 minutes later. None of us were armed. I'm glad the gangsters didn't decide to get out of their car and come in.

Tim,

As you know, in my region (except for the more urbanized/pacifized areas), it is rare that homes do not have some type of firearm. Most men and a significant number of females here are at least familiar with them, if not very proficient.

The police are more afraid of the locals with guns than they are the criminals because the locals generally don't miss what they aim at. Seems completely irrational because the locals don't go around targeting Police. Thing is, when wacked out criminals have a shootout it generally ends with injuries and a lot of property damage. When locals shoot back, somebody usually ends up dead. The police really don't like all paperwork involved, and any kind of death makes very negative publicity for them and the city.

Consequence: Unless a perp has a gun, when a law abiding citizen is in a position to help stop a crime the best way to get the police there is to threaten to shoot the perp yourself.

As far as the body of Christ is concerned their is no black or white. Of course in a horizontal view those girls should have been punished more substantially but so should have thousands of whites in years gone by. Perhaps some white believers in their city should go to them in the love of Christ and share with them the answer that they should know.

Remember, Christ reached out to some sinners just as guilty as they are. Oh yes, you and I. Praise Him for His matchless grace!!

Henry,

I agree that there's no black or white from a heavenly viewpoint, either within the church or without. In southern California, blacks by and large choose to worship at black churches. I question the Scriptural validity of this practice. I see black people themselves guilty of more racism towards whites than the other way around these days. Maybe it's different where you live.

While I agree that thousands of whites should have been punished in years gone by, there's precious little 'night riding' going on these days. The only thing black people have to worry about is the illegal immigrants, many of whom hate black people. There is constant warfare between blacks and Mexicans in So Cal.

I hope somebody does evangelize these kids. At the top of any evangelization effort should be an attempt to show them the wickedness of their actions, and any evidence of their conversion would involve repaying those girls they beat up.

We as believers still have the duty to hold the civil magistrate accountable for his job. He didn't do it in this case.

"Of course in a horizontal view those girls should have been punished more substantially but so should have thousands of whites in years gone by."

Good points, Henry.

I assume that you are not trying to use past history of one race as an excuse for the current actions of another race, but rather an example of how we hope we should act in the future.

"The only thing black people have to worry about is the illegal immigrants, many of whom hate black people."

That is an enviably naive statement.

Henry,

I don't mean to be snarky, but I live about a mile from a neighborhood were a 14 year old black girl was shot for crossing over to the Mexican side of the street. The Mexicans who shot here are being charged with hate crimes. Even the LA Times pointed out that Latino "newcomers" aren't used to having blacks around. Just look at the neighborhood by neighborhood demographic changes in Los Angeles over the past 25 years. You'll get the idea.

February 27, 2007 | Registered CommenterPRCalDude

A quick view of Mexico and Central America reflects a VERY segregated demographic. While 60% of Mexicans are Mestizo, the other 40% represent a wide range of native peoples living in isolated enclaves with a wide variety of dialects.

Straying outside your home territory (barrio?) just isn't something their culture views lightly. And straying into someone else's home territory if often met with extreme prejudice.

It should not surprise us that imigrants do not automatically shed their cultural biases once they cross to the northern side of our southern boarder.
