Memo to Whites: Leave
This seems to be a recurring theme throughout the Western world (via Ilana Mercer:)
My apologies; I’ve misled readers about my native South Africa. I called it the most violent place on earth outside a war zone. I was wrong. BBC World recently—and reluctantly—disclosed that South Africa jostles with Iraq and Colombia for the title of most violent country in the world, war zones included.
In a short segment, correspondent John Simpson reported that in South Africa, on average, 50 people are murdered every day (population: 47 million), 3 times that number are raped; and 300 are violently attacked and robbed daily. And these are the official, likely filtered, figures. They say nothing about the seldom-reported, hundreds of muggings carried out in broad daylight and captured by security cameras. According to Robert McCafferty of the United Christian Action, moreover, the South African Medical Research Council tallies 89 daily deaths; Interpol’s statistics are double those released by the police—a bent and brutal outfit whose chief has been linked to the mafia but has yet to be suspended.
When my family and I presciently left South Africa in 1995, it was still a country with a space program (on which my husband worked), “gleaming skyscrapers,” and department stores that rivaled Macy’s. The Central Business District in Johannesburg bustled. Crime was well controlled. When mobs stoned cars en route to the DF Malan Airport in Cape-Town (geographical names across the country have since been changed to expunge Afrikaans history), a tough and competent police force sprung into action. An equally impressive Western system of Roman-Dutch law dished out just deserts in response to "muti-murder" (ritual killing) or “necklacing” (placing a car tire around a putative offender’s neck and igniting it with gasoline).
A decade hence, the city of Johannesburg, renamed Egoli, looks like Mogadishu—streets strewn with garbage, many spectacular skyscrapers overrun by squatters, vandalized, or boarded up with brick by desperate owners. The five-star Carlton Hotel closed in 1997. The safety of its guests could no longer be guaranteed. Ditto other landmarks such as the Great Synagogue and the green glass Garden Court Hotel.
The specter is repeated across South Africa. Gun battles are commonplace on city streets. Shopkeepers often sit behind iron bars. Stories abound of soccer moms and dads being robbed during a game. As the Christian Science Monitor’s South African correspondent put it, “Nothing says ‘Home Sweet Home’ like 10-foot walls, electric fencing, burglar bars, and at least one panic button wired directly to an armed-response team.” Recent prominent victims of criminals include Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer, assaulted in her Johannesburg home, and Anglo-Zulu War historian David Rattray, murdered in his Northern-Natal lodge.
So, to spare myself a future mea culpa, be advised that the BBC’s crime statistics were, in all likelihood, obtained from the police who’ve been less than frank about the scope of the carnage. Malfeasance, graft and corruption are all in a day’s work for a force hollowed out by affirmative action. If you object to this unflattering characterization observe them in action on YouTube. The BBC has filmed a fairly typical crime-scene intervention during which the police “think about” arresting a man who had stabbed another in the face, but … “change their minds. He is allowed back on the streets again.”
“Think,” of course, is the wrong word—especially when it comes to the brain trust of the ruling African National Congress. President Thabo Mbeki ignored the BBC’s otherwise incontinent exhilaration about everything else South-African, choosing instead to frame as racism the network’s newfound realism vis-à-vis crime. Mbeki wields this ad hominem like an assegai. He is, however, much less adept at logic.
“Nobody can show that the overwhelming majority of the 40-50 million South Africans think that crime is out of control. Nobody can, because it’s not true,” he admonished. Thabo “thinks” truth is decided by majority vote; Thabo “thinks” that if he could get a representative sample of South Africans to agree crime was insignificant, then that would settle the matter.
It so happens that South Africans are fed up (“gatvol” in Afrikaans) with crime. Why else would communities across the country be staging marches in protest? The futile purpose of these events is to present Mbeki with a petition. The premise for such folly being that the ruling kleptocrats are not only competent, but well intentioned and caring too. Thabo will take note, mind you, if the once-mighty Afrikaners take to the streets with their weapons, not with petitions and scented candles.
Mbeki’s ministers share his oil-and-water relationship to the truth. One of them told itvNEWS that when adjusted for population, levels of crime in the Unites States approximate those of South Africa. Lies. Going by the underreported, police crime numbers, the murder rate in South Africa is 10 times worse than the US. According to the MRC figures, it’s 14 times worse. (It's probably much worse in Los Angeles as well - Ed)
At least the Safety and Security Minister is honest; he doesn’t conceal his racial hostility. “Only whites complain,” he smirked, adding that “they can continue to whinge until they are blue in the face, or they can simply leave this country.” (The money quote - Ed)
You can expect this type of statement from a black man in South Africa. He doesn't care what happens to somebody not in his ethnic group. I assure you he's fully in support of the ethnic cleansing going on in South Africa, which is unfashionable to discuss in the West, but not on this blog. But too many whites do the same thing to their ethnic kin. Said white LA police chief William Bratton in 2003:
"In as much as California has pretty much indicated that they don't want us involved in that issue, we're out of that business. If you don't like it leave the state."
Of course this was directed at Whites. Bratton simply echoed the sentiments of Mario Obledo (founder of the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund), who has made numerous statements along these lines:
"California is going to become a Hispanic state..."
Of course, if you discuss a topic like this with most Whites, many will label you a racist, though they will privately agree. Some, especially of the liberal Truther brand found in Los Angeles, will label you a racist and actually disagree. There's not much hope for such people. Still, there's many who will listen and agree. Given that the anti-assimilation forces are so firmly entrenched in the U.S. government, perhaps we should start learning from other Europeans who have already suffered what is headed our way, namely the white South Africans, Serbs, and Israeli Jews. Call me paranoid, but it's wise to pay attention to these things.
Looks like the Mexodus and its remittances aren't going to save the elites of Mexico this time around either.
(h/t the Heidelblog) There was recently a pastors and theologians forum on race over at 9 Marks. What I found so shocking was how quickly and easily white racism was condemned in the American church by Black, White, and Asians, but hardly any mention was made of racism in Black, Asian, and Hispanic churches. No, it's only the whites who are guilty. Oddly enough (or perhaps not), the only pastor who was able to articulate a Biblical perspective on the subject of race in the church from Scripture was a white man. Black pastor Anthony Carter had this to say:
Is there a race problem in the church? Indeed there is. The unfortunate truth is that there is a racial divide in evangelicalism. The issue primarily lies in our inability (particularly our white brothers and sisters) to live according to Philippians 2:3: "in humility count others more significant than yourselves." White privilege makes it difficult and even unnecessary for our white brothers and sisters to submit to those who are not racially or culturally like them. This lack of submission does not necessarily stem from a racist attitude, but it does demonstrate that we do what is most comfortable and causes the least tension in our cultural identifications. It also tends to make talk of racial diversity empty and fruitless.
Most of my white evangelical and Reformed brothers and sisters speak positively and eloquently on racial diversity. For this, I commend them. However, until we see white men and women doing what black men and women have long learned to do—namely, sitting under and submitting to the leadership and authority of those who are ethnically different—we will not see real diversity.
Most of the diversity we presently see is black men and women going to where white people are. Even when predominantly white churches call a black man to be the pastor, it is black people going to where white people are most comfortable. Real diversity will happen when we see white people regularly and joyfully going to where black men lead, preach, and teach. We will see real diversity when white people learn to submit to the minority culture as black people have had to submit to the majority culture.
Mutual submission is an undeniable evidence of the Spirit’s work (Phil. 2:3-4). It is particularly evident when the majority learn the worth and joy of submitting to the minority. It demonstrates that they fear God more than men. Where there is no mutual submission, there is no real fear of God. Where there is no real fear of God, there will be no real diversity. God has long given us the solution to the racial problem. Besides a racial problem, however, it appears that we have an obedience problem as well.
Anthony Carter is the assistant pastor of Southwest Christian Fellowship, author of On Being Black and Reformed, and an organizing member of the Council of Reforming Churches.
From my perspective, this statement is shocking. This pastor's entire world seems to revolve around his race, as he is the author of "Being Black and Reformed." Can you imagine a book entitled "Being White and Reformed," or "Being White and (insert anything)?" Whites tend to go to churches in the communities in which they live, just as blacks do. We self-segregate our neighborhoods, therefore we self-segregate our schools, churches, and everything else. Add to that the fact that black neighborhoods tend to be higher in crime (if you agree with government crime statistics), and you'll understand why whites aren't flocking to black churches, which tend to be in black neighborhoods. It's not a "white priveledge" issue at all.
People who care tend to drive a long distance to hear good preaching. My wife and I drive quite a ways, where there is ethnic diversity in the congregation. The head pastor is white, and the assistant pastor is a white Brazilian. The congregation is composed mostly of whites, with a significant minority of Asians, hispanics, and even some blacks. I'm not there for the diversity. That doesn't enhance or detract from my worship at all. Rather, it's just indicative of the fact that we're all one in Christ, and we all are of a like-minded purpose and see things largely the same way: as Christians. We also tend to all like good preaching, which is why the church is largely a commuter church. As for the liturgy and worship being too white, well, too bad. The Reformation happened in Europe, and that's where the bulk of Reformed theology and liturgy were produced. There and America, which was largely white until recently. Deal.

I have a co-worker friend from South Africa. She has told me about the "Blaster", which is a flamethrower designed to stop carjackings.
South Africa is clearly a nation in trouble. Poverty, anarchy, law-lessness, and incrediblely high rates of crime are all too common. You go to an intersection, and you risk getting carjacked. You go home to a fortress that has high walls for protection.
I have another friend from Brazil. She has told me often about the "favelas." She has talked often about how even the Brazilian police, and even Brazilian government soldiers do not go into the favelas, because they are controlled by the narco traffickers. On rare occasions, government troops will send in tanks and soldiers, but it is clear to all that the "favelas are a different nation within the nation of Brazil."
In America, we have so much to be thankful for. Only by the sovereign grace of God can we say that in America things are different.
How long will God's hand rest on America? It is by God's grace alone that America is different from crime-ridden Brazil and South Africa.
Though I fear that America is changing for the worse. With USA politicians encouraging law-lessness and rewarding anarchy with the gift of USA citizenship, I no longer see America in the future as being "different" from the Brazilian favela.
I checked this site just to make sure that the above "Blaster" reference was legitimate. It is legit.
But the deteriorating crime situation in South Africa is much, much worse than I previously imagined. Check
this information out for yourself below:
I just finished watching the You Tube video. Unbelievable. It is simply shocking what the president of that country said. Unbelievable.
Here is a separate YouTube video.
He's not any different from Bush and his open borders crowd.
I think it is because the African president of South Africa, just like Bush, Graham-Amnesty, John Kyl of AZ, Ted Kennedy, and the Democrats, already have chosen what "America" to live in, and what "America" to stay far away from.
John Edwards was indeed right about "Two Americas." He just defined it wrong.
There are Two Americas: one that experiences daily the negative effects of law-lessness and illegal immigration, and the other America that is sheltered in high income, well-protected areas that don't see and experience the negative effects, like crowded schools, hospital closures, home prices that are falling due to your neighbors living 3 families in single family homes, etc.
Apartheid is here in America.
This African president lives in the rich side, the side that never sees the daily effects of the "other side." He lives in a closet. Just like Bush, Graham-Amnesty, Ted Kennedy and others do not ever chose to go to the "other side of America."
It is apartheid of a different kind.
"However, until we see white men and women doing what black men and women have long learned to do—namely, sitting under and submitting to the leadership and authority of those who are ethnically different—we will not see real diversity."
That there is some potent stupid. Truly potent. I can name a church or two out here in CA off the top of my head where this is demonstrably the case. Also, how is "diversity" of itself, a virtue worth attaining? Where's that in scripture?
Haha! Hammer. Nail. Head.
Joseph,
It was quite amazing how he so carelessly repeated the talking points of the NAACP and the pigs in "Animal Farm." "Truly potent stupid" is right on the mark.
"However, until we see white men and women doing what black men and women have long learned to do—namely, sitting under and submitting to the leadership and authority of those who are ethnically different—we will not see real diversity."
Oh dear. For me this passage is the last part of the psychological jigsaw in understanding multiculturalism. As I understand this we Westerners must experience colonialism (or slavery?) to truly understand the pain that underdeveloped/oppressed nations have gone through. By this rationale it would be moral to surrender. This is very depressing.
Yes. And with this type of thinking, it's no wonder that whites aren't flocking to this guy's church. Unfortunately, he was representative of the opinion of black church leadership on that forum. It reminds me of a Minor Threat song:
"I'm a convict of a racist crime. I've only served 19 years of time. Chorus: Guilty of being white."
I'm reminded of the Roman Conquest of Europe under which a significant number of White European ancestors languished.
Also the twice attempted conquest of Europe by Middle Eastern Muslim invaders.
Not to mention the accepted but hidden practice of white and black slavery in North Africa.
Men of God like Jesse Lee Peterson and Keith Butler sure wouldn't go over well with Pastor Carter. This man comes off like just another pompous "Afro-nazi" (thanks to David Horowitz for that one) rather than a man of the Word.
The truly alarming thing was that that drivel was allowed on the 9 Marks blog, which is run by Mark Dever, who is supposed to be one of these modern day "reformers." This is why I don't trust 'reformed' baptists.
