Let's Play "Bamboozle the kuffar"

Since the mainstream "conservative" blogs are covering this, I guess I will as well.

Apparently, Turkish Muslims are re-interpreting the Qur'an in light of historical redactions of the Hadith. There is nothing in the above article about re-interpreting jihad to make it a peaceful inner struggle ALONE, neither is there anything about dhimmitude, which makes Jews and Christians a harried second class similar to that of American blacks living under Jim Crow, but worse.

If the Turks are truly re-interpreting the Qur'an to make it modern and peaceful, more power to them. What is much more likely, however, is that this is another instance of Muslims playing "bamboozle the kuffar" to get something they want. In this case, it is probably membership into the EU that they're after.

Turkey is heading in a decidedly Islamist, Arabist direction. Ergodan, their new prime minister, has long been the leader of an Islamist party in Turkey. The Turks have also recently jailed Christian missionaries, and others have been killed. Wearing of the hijab has also become much more common.

Finally, there's no evidence, none whatsoever, that Al-Azhar University in Cairo will accept any of these changes. Al-Azhar is recognized as the highest authority of Islamic jurisprudence, and as far as they're concerned, open interpretation of the Qur'an ceased around 1400 AD. The gates of ijtihad are closed, as they put it. Are the Turks attempting to convince the four schools of Sunni jurisprudence to re-open them? Highly doubtful.

This is "re-interpretation" should be dubbed "taqiyya" until a mountain of evidence to the contrary. As Aengus observes on HotAir:
This is not good news. It is gesture politics of a strain so fraudulent, reluctant and barely relevant (to Islam) that only someone who is desperate to believe in it could believe in it.

If upholding the sanctity of the Two Winnable Wars requires flooding Europe with 70 million Turks then bye bye Western world.

If any of you out there believe the Turks, I have some waterfront property to sell you.

Is it not ironic that Turkish Muslims are re-interpreting the Qur'an in light of historical redactions of the Hadith because of all the re-interpretations of the Qur'an of other nations and cultures in the past?

How is what they are now doing any better or different than what they claim others did wrong in the past?

What this proves is that Islam is as much a tool of political conquest as it is a cultural guide and theological doctrine. Just as reflected in the long history of Islamic conquest since Muhammed started this religion.
