the view from the manse
The people in full control of the GOP these days are people like David Bahnsen: wealthy, isolated from the problems their policies create, and out of touch from and calloused towards their kin.
Just as an aside, Bahnsen works (and I think lives) in Newport Beach, and extremely wealthy city next to the one I went to high school in, though mine is now filled with the same types of people. You know, he's the type of Republican that lower-middle class white average joes vote into office to look out for their interests, even though he has interests that conflict completely with theirs.
This Bahnsen post is an example of the GOP mentality: scare us with jihad to get elected, once elected, give the jihadists citizenship through amnesty. I'm not a smart man, but won't an amnesty bring the jihad to our own neighborhoods? Oh, I forgot, there'll be background checks. How silly of me...
McCain's having closed-door meetings with Hispanics. What's more interesting is the comments. Conservative whites are beginning to realize that there's a certain racial aspect of McCain's immigration policy that is specifically targeting them - for replacement.
I'm not voting for him or Obama because there's no point. Neither will represent my interests.

In suburban Chicago-land, the wealthy rich live in gated communities and send their kids to pretty decent public schools, though expensive private school is always an option for them. However, the wealthy have been experiencing a negative trend lately which they aim to quickly remedy...it seems that in some suburbs "mom and pop" stores (ex. local pharmacy that is owned by elderly couple for 4 decades or so that has not yet been bought out by Walgreens or Costco) that have elderly owners have been renting the 2nd floor storage space as apartment units. These 2nd story apartments have been rented out to illegals, etc. And now the wealthy rich want to eliminate these apartments through zoning laws.
I used to live in a 2nd floor apartment located above an insurance office. Now they are rezoning the area to make it too difficult and too expensive for the owners to convert to apartment space, which is causing the former tenants to move elsewhere, which is what the wealthy really want anyway.
The upper elites want the "benefits" of illegal immigration and none of the resulting problems that come along with it.
Cheers for a 2 tier Society.
How silly of you...
Funny thinga bout that... the average Joes are moving out of those communities being replaced with all the "amnestied immigrants".
What are those "gated" communities to do when the average population that supports their gated lifestyle leave? Ever visited our neighbor nations to the south? hmm...
Exactly.
Step 1: glass pieces and broken bottles on the walls.
Step 2: razor wire
Step 3: armed guards????
I hope Bahnsen and his ilk have a plan for dealing with the kidnappings for ransom.
Eventually the economies that keep the gated peoples wealthy will cease to exist and the gated people will then leave. Or, they will excise their communities of the "undesireables" by hiring "appropriate" security. And blame it all on the average Joe for bailing out on the community in the first place.
But the thing is that in such a community the service industries will remain to service the wealthy, hiring the new underclass as labor.
Ironically, the gated communities will be fencing the new underclass out by night and letting them in to work during the day. All the while wondering at why the quality of the workforce is going down and daytime petty crime is going up.
This is what happens in my in-laws community in San Diego. They live in Del Mar (northern SD) and all the Mexicans pretty much live in the southern part. During the day, all the Mexicans come up north to work. They've been having robberies in Del Mar. My mother in-law was complaining about it. I remarked, "Well, when you have them working here during the day, they're getting a good look at the houses with all of the goods and telling their friends where to find it at night." The vacant expression on her face indicated to me that she didn't get it.
You made an excellent point, which fits nicely with the emerging 2-Tier Society. To keep the illegals out of the wealthy residential areas in the evening, the wealthy may put pressure on the mayor or town council to increase racial profiling by the police. There has been some reports of that happening somewhat in Chicago-land. But these incidents only occur in the evening, and never in the daytime.
Democrats are banking that Republicans will boycott voting this year. McCain is doing nothing to assuage their hope.
^yep.
bahnsen is a political pragmatist first, even if you see doomsday with immigration and think mccain is the same as obama. You can still be pragmatic enough on the other key issues to worsen the blow, like taxes, Judges....Obama re-interpreting the Bible to secular Humanism on a huge stage...better worldview. McCain is the John Wayne between the two, plus Obama is the most pro-abortion candidate ever.
So if you are logical enough to see only 1 of 2 people will be mathematically elected POTUS, you might as well pick your poison instead of aiding your greater evil, paticularly when that evil would be greatly strengthened with a dem/socialist Congress which would increase their power greatly.
Atleast this applies if you live in a Purple State, if in a deep red or blue state, knock yourself out.
thats mostly the point Bahensen made here in his "Third Party Buffonery" post, which is at a minimum entertaining to read:

btw, his dad beleived in the 'lesser of evils" approach and the logic behind it. Greg Bahnsen voted for HW Bush in 1992 over Perot or other 3rd parties for this reason.
the larger problem with immigration is our culture is weak and unsure of itself, which doesn't help assimilation at all and needs to be slowed some while the politics of doing such are horrible. When the Italians came, they spoke Italian and weren't all that knowledgeable about free market economics, etc., many were uneducated. Yet with time, their decendents atleast for the most part have assimilated. granted historically they are smarter than mexicans on the whole, while both of Catholic orgins.
If the baby boomers had just had enough babies("Go forth and multiply") we wouldn't be in this mess. Same for Europe who is worse off.
The Old Italians didn't have the illegitimacy and crime rates the New Italians do.
Italians (Irish, Germans, what-have-you) didn't come here thinking the nation was illegitimately taken from then and hoping it would be returned to them via legitimate and illegitimate means. Many of the people migrating north are of the same mindset, looking for opportunities, but these people are not the problem.
The problem is the number of people migrating north for the very purpose of taking over, via illegitimate means, and all the people already here abetting their efforts.
